In Norway, an underwater structure is being built, where soon queues of people wishing to get inside
Many people want to see the mysterious life of the underwater world: someone is reviewing National Geographic issues for this, someone is mastering diving, and someone … is going to a restaurant. Not so long ago, the construction of the first institution in Europe began on the southern coast of Norway, the building of which is half located under water and looks like a giant periscope. It will function both as a restaurant and as a research center, where unique flora and fauna are observed.The construction of the building is very unusual, because it was built at an angle: the entrance is on the shore and the lounge is at a depth of 5 m. The tables will be located at the panoramic window measuring 11 * 4 m and visitors will be able to see everything that happens “behind the glass” . Depending on the season and natural conditions, the “picture” looks different.
The organizers of the project hope that such a restaurant will be able to popularize information on the biological diversity of the marine world. The institution is called Under, which literally means “under (water)”, but translated from Norwegian can be read as “amazing.” To arouse interest is indeed the very goal pursued by the concept developers.
The owners of the restaurant plan to establish close cooperation with the researchers of the sea, with their help to create the conditions under which fish and shellfish began to perceive a foreign building as an organic part of the coastline. The building has a streamlined shape, it is encapsulated in a concrete sink, on which mussels should eventually settle. It is planned that over time, the restaurant will become an artificial reef that will attract more shellfish. A gradual purification of the waters will take place, and more marine inhabitants will swim into these coastal waters.
The restaurant can simultaneously accommodate 80-100 guests in comfort. Muffled lighting is used inside. At the entrance to the restaurant there will be information boards on Norwegian biodiversity. Once inside, guests will go through three levels. The wardrobe area is located on the surf line, below is a bar, here you can drink a glass of champagne, this is the border of the coastline and the ocean floor. A tall vertical window is set here. Even lower is the main hall, where at the panoramic window there are two large dining tables and several other small tables.
The color scheme in the design of the restaurant also emphasizes this natural zoning. The bar is dominated by warm colors that are associated with the coastal area – with shells, rocks, sand. The lower level is decorated in blue and green – these are the colors of the seabed and algae. All the furniture and decoration are made of natural oak. This wood is not only visually attractive to create a cozy atmosphere, but also durable.
The opening of the restaurant is scheduled for 2019. In the meantime, the largest restaurant under water is located in the Maldives. There, at a depth of 10 m, 30 visitors can simultaneously accommodate.
